Does it cost anything to enter the competition?

No, entry is free of charge, but entries will only be considered from eligible entrants.

How can I be an eligible entrant?

Eligible entrants are people who have applied to study on one of our Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical & Manufacturing Engineering (Loughborough University) undergraduate degree programmes, for entry to study in October 2017:

  • Electronic & Computer Systems Engineering
  • Electrical & Electronic Engineering
  • Engineering Management
  • Manufacturing Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Product Design Engineering
  • Sports Technology
  • Systems Engineering

Prizes can only be awarded to entrants who are registered for undergraduate degree programme study within the Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical & Manufacturing Engineering (Loughborough University) in October 2017.

What formats do you accept?

avi, mpg, mov, wmv, mp4 and m4v are all acceptable extensions with a resolution no lower than 640 x 480. The video should play on Quicktime and/or Realplayer. Test your video on a friend's computer before submission. Please make sure you have used the correct extension to your filename.

Do you want a compressed or uncompressed file?

We are happy to accept compressed and uncompressed files. However, compressed files will tend to load up better. If you are chosen as a finalist then we may contact you and ask you for an uncompressed version.

What is the maximum file size?

Ideally the video file size should be kept to less than 100 MB, but the maximum file size is 300 MB.

How does the judging process work?

The Competition Committee will nominate Judges to review all eligible submitted videos. Each valid entry will be judged in a fair manner against the following criteria: Originality and Creativity of Ideas - 35%, Demonstrating Exciting Engineering - 25%, Technical Correctness - 15%, Composition and Structure - 25%.

How are winners notified?

All winners will be contacted by telephone, mail and/or email. Winners will be notified by the 1st October 2017.

Can I use my own music?

Yes – you can use your own music. But any music you obtain from a commercial source must be appropriately licensed and acknowledged. Remember that we are more concerned about an exciting engineering or technology story and the visual content. We will not mark you up or down for any music you use.

Can I use other peoples video in my video?

We strongly recommend that you only use original footage that you have shot yourself.

You must not copy footage from any other video you find on the Internet or elsewhere.
